Cabin Fever

I think I'm developing Cabin fever. I've been trying

new recipes and sewing a lot!

These are homemade donuts and they were really good!

The Pillowcase Dress Has anyone tried making the pillowcase dress? Cute dress, but it
didn't look right. Looked like a pillowcase-big surprise, right?

So, I had to improve it. This version is much cuter.

I made a "boy" apron for my little guy, he's only been asking me to

make one for several months. My cutie pie needed a bigger apron and

mom has one to match.

This water is amazing! Look at that color! The water is very very cold, like ice water.

Alexis and Avery, especially Avery had a blast playing in the ice cold water.

I know it has been a LONG time since this blog has been updated. We got going on it and then kind of let it go. I think it would be great if we could get back to posting. I was just looking back through the older posts, and it was so fun to see the pictures and read about everybody's happenings. I thought this might be the perfect time to rededicate ourselves to this because we are all going to the meet at the coast this week for some fun memories (and pictures I'm sure).

Ok. Because i am uber tired of seeing that ridiculous picture (below), I am posting this to move it down. i just wanted to let my awesome family members know that i am BEYOND excited to see everyone again. It will be by FAR the highlight of my month! and thats sayin somethin because my birthday happens to be on monday. But, honestly, whats so exciting about turning seventeen? I would MUCH rather eat some amazingly incredible food, surrounded by my favorite people, also eating incredibly amazing food. LOVE YOU ALL!!!! :)

This is an untouched photo I took a few years ago in our back yard. I bought a poppy plant, mainly because my dad loved them and I had never had one before. The plant was small, without a bud in sight. In a couple weeks, the round buds began to appear and I was excited to see how tall it was becoming. One morning, I looked out my kitchen window and saw something glowing in the backyard. It couldn't be! As I approached, I was awestruck. The sunlight filtering through the rich red petals made the flower glow in an unearthly way I had never seen before in another flower. No one who saw it could believe their eyes. Every year I looked forward to this magical sight, but one fall, I was weeding the little flower island and I moved a few items around. I forgot the poppy, which had died back for the winter. The next spring, I kept waiting for the mass of green leaves to appear, but they did not. I had managed to destroy this amazing plant in one moment of forgetfulness. I have been looking for a similar poppy since then, but have had no luck.
The people in our lives are no less amazing..beautiful, unique. We can never forget the magic they impart, the love they share. I am so grateful for a life full of magic.

One of my best friend's 16th birthday was coming up and I had no idea what to get her! I was talking about this with my mom and my aunt Erica, and Erica suggested a candy bouquet! I thought it was such a great idea. My mom (having previously worked in a flower shop) helped me with the arrangement. It was way fun to put together, creative, unique, and edible! Just thought I would share this awesome gift idea that anyone would love.

Filly of the Week!

Usually this "award" is only given to the true athletes of Cody High School who have done particularly well recently and deserve to be recognized. This week I was chosen! When the athletic director (who teases me often) came up and congratulated me, being the nerd I am, I thought he was kidding and thought nothing of it. Later my dad affirmed that he wasn't kidding and that I should go pick up my filly of the week t-shirt. My name has been posted on the tv and announced on the radio, so it does make me feel pretty special. I realize my track coach probably only turned my name in, not because I am a star athlete, but because I needed a boost of self-esteem after the last couple meets. Regardless, I am very happy. And to be quite honest, it did boost my confidence a little...:)

Cooling Down

Just thought I'd share a few pictures from the last few weeks. Trev & Gracie slept out in the tent in the yard a couple weekends ago. They had a great time together (as you can see on their smiley faces).

Had to get all the petals of this rose, because it is amazing.

Gracie loves the sidewalk chalk. Here she is doing her hopscotch that she made.

I painted the dining room wall a yellow-tan. The blue is gone, and we really don't miss it much. This color is much warmer. Here is me up on top of the pantry hutch in the kitchen. Glad that's over! ;)

Doesn't it look nice now that it's done? I really like it. It's amazing how a coat of paint can change the entire look of things. I also painted my once white candle sconces black.

Got the inside of the house decorated for fall now. Here are a few pictures of the entry way and the fireplace mantel.

I also got the porch ready. I haven't put the scary Halloween stuff out yet, but just got it more fallish. Is that a word? Look at the flowers trailing from the deck box though. Aren't they amazing? Probably won't be long before a freeze kills them all though. Glad I caught the color before it's gone.

Skylar and I planted the ornamental kale in the pots and had fun decorating the stairway with pumpkins. I love autumn!

Here is a barrel of what is left of the squash. The overripe stuff. We sure enjoyed the crookneck this year!

Melanie and Kim's mom passed away. We are going to attend the funeral this Saturday. I brought them dinner on Sunday night, and they both looked so fragile and exhausted. I wanted to hug away all their pain. I know they are in for some hard days ahead. Keep them in your prayers.

Trevor and I have some friends that are going through some heartbreaking experiences. It has made me think a lot about my life and my love ones... you guys!

First of all our dear friends have been experiencing some really hard times in their marriage, and they are going through some sad and confusing feelings right now. Trev and I love these guys, we go out with them about 2 times a month, and they are such an awesome couple, so it has come as a surprise. The good thing, is Trev and I have been able to take some of our own experiences from the past and share them, which they have told us many times has been a pivotal part of them staying together and having a goal to work through this instead of ending in divorce. They are not members of our church, and it has given me some opportunity to share my beliefs with them because she has asked me time and again how I have been able to get through the trials in my life. I have been able to share with her my faith in God and the knowledge that he knows each of us and is there for us. I pray for them every day, and I have been reminded of how thankful I am for mom and dad for giving us such a wonderful example of how a husband/wife relationship should be. I am also thankful for Trevor. We have been through some amazing trials, and our love has prevailed...I am blessed.

Also, our dear friends, Kimi & Melanie (the 2 beautiful girls on the left) are losing their mother to cancer. They are so young. I check on their blogs daily to see how they are doing, and I am brought to tears each time I read. But what is beautiful is the faith of this family. They are as close a family as we are, and I can't help but feel their pain at this time. I am reminded every day how lucky we are to have Mom, Dad and each other here on this earth right now. Cherish each other! Love each other! I love all of you more than you know. I feel so blessed to be a part of this family. I am sorry if I take any of you for granted when getting caught up in the busy times in this life. But know that I am happiest when I am with any or all of you. Mom...how blessed I am to have you close. I can't imagine not being able to stop by or just pick up the phone and talk to you about anything, important or not. I can't imagine life without any of you, but like this sweet family, the gospel gives me peace and hope.

Hey family and friends!

It's been quite some time since I last posted anything here. I have some great news to start off with. I passed all my part 2 board exams and survived Tri. 6. What a relief! Chad and his fiance came to visit us this weekend and my friend here hooked us up with tickets to 2 Rangers baseball games. We had so much fun and little Riley got to experience her first taste of baseball. We miss you all and can't wait to see you when all of this is finished. We love you!

Birthday Luau!!

We had a great luau birthday party for Mom, Skylar and Alexis! We played beach ball relay (the little girls used balloons), pass the pineapple (Mike won) and a Hawaiian word guess game (Jenn won). Everyone had name tags with their Hawaiian name on it. We made Hawaiian pizzas, drank homemade strawberry lemonade and for dessert, we had a sundae bar with ice cream, brownies, bananas, strawberry sauce, nuts, fudge, etc. It was so yummy, and lots of fun! Wish you could have been there Kris and Craig (and your fams). We miss you all!

I hope you all had a great weekend! We sure miss you. I wanted to share a few things. First, Chelsea had her first track meet last Thursday, and it was a small blizzard! But we don't call things off until zero visibility here in the Rockies, so the kids ran. Actually, the coach gave the Freshman girls an option to bow out if they wanted, so Chelsea came bounding over to tell me the news and collect her things. Well, I hadn't sat there for 2 hours waiting for her race, the 400m, so she could bow out, so I told her to get back over there and warm up. And she did! And you know what? She not only took a second off her time, but came in 2nd Place Overall for the Girls' J.V.! Wooohooo! She was very proud of herself and so was Dad, who was running the event, and Coach, who told Brandon we were now his favorite track parents. Jacob also did a great job working as a runner for the staff, and even shared his food coupons with Maren. Chelsea's other events were the 100m, and the 4x100m, though those may change as they are still trying to find her "sweet spots". I forgot the camera, so I will try again next time.
Also, Braeden is doing much better, on the mend from whatever was ailing him. We cut out milk and corn syrup (as much as we could, anyway) and switched his bread to the good stuff. He gets a lunch-size box of rice milk in his lunch, and I found a Clif bar called Z-Bars for kids at Walmart, and they are really good. He is all for it because he just wants to feel better. We decided he would sit out track this year because he lost a lot of weight and is still recovering, but he may try tennis when it starts a little later. They are offering it at the middle school for the first time this year. We'll see!

Yesterday was one of those days to remember for a couple of reasons. I actually fulfilled a New Years resolution to do more of the things I enjoy and to play more with the grandkids. (I've already messed up on the resolution to lose the excess winter poundage - but I am not giving up!) I had Lexie and Avery over for part of the day yesterday. They quickly got out the "Teddy Bear Picnic" set to play with (a collection of large doll furniture table setting, iron stove, bed, fireplace, and assorted teddy bears) while I cleaned up the kitchen. We made brownies. I had almost said no to their request to make some since I'd made peanut butter oatmeal cookies for their visit the night before. This would definitely put me in jeopardy of the aforementioned resolution. But their pleas and insistence that grandpa would love them did me in. Then they wanted to play hide and seek. "Play", there's the keyword. I pounced on it like I used to pounce on dust (remember your poem, Kris?). While I hid one child, and the other counted to 20, I scrambled to find a hiding spot several times, giggling like a kid as the seeker yelled out "Make a noise!" After much success, I was running out of places - after all, one can only use the shower tub just so often. I heard the light steps of little Avery descending the stairs and I was still unhidden. Spying the large green throw gave me an idea. I threw it over my head (it covered me head to foot). I wedged myself into a corner between the pantry door and calendar wall standing tall. What came next almost burst me an artery as I tried to repress laughter. That little pixie ran past me 3 or 4 times without a notice. Finally, standing close and yelling, "Gumma, make a noise!", I just had to make her notice the large fuzzy tree next to her. She looked amazed and she laughed with delight - so did I!

We went on to play with Grandma's jewelry and large silk scarves, running through the house as Mexicans (tied at the waist), Japanese (tied around our torsos), or Indians (not American), draped just so. And that, my friends, was fun! Dust and clutter will always be there to deal with. -- Later!

*Can you believe, Mike and I later took brownies and cookies to Shelli's and shared a movie (Flight of the Navigator) with the grandkids while Shelli and Trevor were at a party. We surprised the kids and had a great evening snuggling. Then we chatted with Shelli until 1:00am. None of us had a clue how late it was. Now, that's a good time!!

I had a dream last night that went like this.

I'm in some very dusty ancient ruins with my cousin Tanner (He's in almost every one of my dreams) And I get attacked by some Star Wars characters (you probably wouldn't know) I fight them off then receive a message that my best friend and his sister and all of my family are touring "Flapjack City" (It's up in these really high mountains and there are mountains everywhere and everything is covered with snow and the city is built on this big red Frisbee thing that is very bendy) And the "Frisbee Thing" is going to slide off the mountain. So I have to fight a couple more Star Wars characters off and then some aliens from Halo until finally I have to hike the Machu Picchu trail but at the top is Flapjack city. The "Frisbee Thing" has already started to slip off and everybody is screaming so I jump and grab it with my cousin Tanner (He's been with me the whole time) while it's on the edge and we pull it back up with the help of some Sporgins (I knew what they were called in the dream for some reason. They are pretty much orange-colored moose spirits [beats me. don't ask]) We keep pulling it until it is at the top of the mountain instead of on this ledge that it used to be on. Next the town's people decide to name the town after me: "Braidonvile". After I try to explain that my name is spelled differently, everybody gets mad at me (Except Tanner and his girlfriend who are happily kissing) and they push me of the ledge. As I am looking up and falling, I see Tanner on his belly look over the edge and reach down to me as if trying to grab me then he is dragged away. I fall for about an hour or so and it was the most realistic fall I have ever had in any of my dreams, then I wake up with no blankets on me, halfway off my bunk, and with a sore throat and runny nose.

*note by Mom: Do you think Xbox had anything to do with this?

The little boy has finally come out to play! He now shares a birthday with his sweet Aunt Jennifer. His weight was 8Lbs and 5 ounces and he is 21 inches long. He picked up on the eating thing right away and has been doing great. He had a bit of Jaundice but is now back to normal. He's a sweetie! Enjoy the pics.

Hi guys!
We are back from the British Virgin Islands (BVI). We returned last night late. We are so glad to be home, and had a crazy day yesterday with all the flight changes and problems but we are so grateful we made it safe. It's that time of year! Chels and I put the tree up on Friday, I decorated the house on Saturday, Sunday we decorated the tree and yesterday I put up the outside decorations. We still have the snow that fell the day before Thanksgiving and it is bright, sunny, and beautiful. How I miss you all! We are keeping our home very busy this year, though. I am hosting a luncheon and ornament exchange for the church ladies on the 13th, and we are having a bishopric/auxilliary leadership party, too. Debbie will be staying with us for a few days over Christmas break, so that will be fun, and work starts on our basement tomorrow! Hooray! By the way, Chelsea is playing basketball and finally enjoying it again, so that is cool, and keeps her busy. She has great coaches, and what a difference that makes. I will send more pictures of the house later. Merry Christmas!

CHRISTMAS SEASON IS HERE!!!!!
We had a fun day this morning shopping for some christmas presents (even though I got stuck in line for 3 hours for an early bird special!!!!). I then put the christmas lights on the house and it started to snow for about 30 seconds. We danced around the house to christmas music and decorated the tree! Well, it's official! I am an old family man driving a minivan! I promised myself that we would never get a minivan, but I have come to realize that it is the most practical and comfortable for our family at this point in life. My baby (subaru legacy) is gone and I'm sad about that, but I must say that this van is pretty sweet! Driving a '02 Toyota Sienna XLE minivan to school now is quite the humbling experience. Here's a pic or two of my new baby.

My birthday was friday! My mom took me out to eat at this sushi place and I was a little unsure. But I really enjoyed it and I was happy to try something new! She later suprised me with letting me drive on the huge parking lot in front of the rodeo grounds and gave me some pointers. I find myself very addicted to driving now, however I have not gotten to the point where i feel comfortable driving around moving cars :) (this is probably a good thing)

We hope everyone had a fun halloween and that you've gone to see Trevor for a cleaning! We especially had fun because it was our first time handing out candy at our own house. The kids had a blast and were so fun to watch going from door to door. The last door that Craig went to was quite entertaining as he felt it would be okay to throw a fit in front of the lady trying to hand him candy as he screamed, "I want to do it, I want to do it!" He apparently wanted to pick the candy out of the bowl himself. What a fun stage of life. We can't wait to see all of your pics! Love you all!

Halloween Party?

I was wondering if you had the annual bash. We didn't have one here. It just got too busy. We made a trip to Yellowstone yesterday. The weather was beautiful, but it was coooold. The east gate (from Cody) closes tomorrow for the winter. The park was practically empty, but it was really pretty. You can see some pics of the kids in their costumes on my blog... pretty cute!

Well, I guess we have a bunch of brainiacs in our family. It is very rare to see 5 or 6 when you read through the sentence because the brain doesn't process the word OF for some reason. Most people can read and reread that sentence and never pick out those f's because the brain will just skip right over them until someone points them out. Kinda fun and weird. If if took you more than a couple times to read it and pick them out, then you are normal. But if you saw 6 right off, you are on of the border of guinius.

A spooky tale

I have a little story to relate. It's a scary story.
It seems our sweet, angelic Skylar has a flair for the macabre.

I got a call from her principal this morning who related this story to me. On Thursday there were all these stories going around that the school had some kind of ghost in it. "The blur" they were calling it. They saw it sweep through their classroom and out the back door. Then at recess, it swept through the playground, leaving a little girl's jacket behind, but the girl was gone! (Skylar did come home from school with stories of the "blur", and Tanner and I assured her it was their imaginations and to let it be). I guess they all told the teacher about it, and she told them it was their imaginations or stories told by some kids that was spreading, and that they needed to stop talking about it, and that was it.
Well, I guess over the weekend the principal got a call from a concerned mom. Two little girls in his class had shown him a "bloody note" on Friday, that said "I will kill you" on it, and it freaked him out. The mom was concerned and wondered what the heck was going on. Can we guess who one of the little girls was who showed him the note? Skylar and her friend Riley were called to the principals office where she asked them what was going on. Riley denied knowing anything, but at least Skylar had a conscience. She admitted that she and Riley thought they would add to the mystery, so at lunch they smeared ketchup on a napkin and wrote the note.
So...end of story, the principal made them go back to the class and apologize. She called me so I would be aware. She was quite surprised at Skylar, and so was I! I asked, "SKYLAR did the napkin thing?" She laughed, and said she knew where I was coming from because she is such a good kid.
A good kid with a bit of a gruesome side.

I think it might be best though if she doesn't know I shared this story. I'm pretty sure it would embarrass her.
